Talk about false economy!

I purchased, one and a half years ago, a second-hand fridge freezer for €100 plus delivery. It died, and my poor lodgers have been without a fridge-freezer in this heat.

I feel for them, especially as they were returning guests. However they were very understanding, and as my caretaker had lost his wife and so of course couldn’t concentrate 100% on them I have offered that they don’t have to pay for the utilities during their stay. I feel that’s the least I can do to show some goodwill. My caretaker has now replaced the fridge-freezer with a brand new one. Many thanks to him.

I have had and still have a great season, thanks to Novasol, my letting agent. It has been the best move I have made toward renting out the flat. This year it has been rented out all of June, July and August bar 1 week. And it’s even occupied for 3 weeks in November. Not at all bad, at least it is now paying for itself.

Living without a lift

As you my know my flat is on the second floor and the garage is under level. Now this makes 32 steps to where the lift is, then 3 flights of stairs  (consisting of  3, 9, 3 flights plus 10 steps to next flight) and a final 24 steps to the flat. It is therefore not a surprise that I carry a small chair, to rest and catch my breath on each landing.

I will be so fit or so exhausted at the end of my holiday.  I hope the lift is mended soon.

I had 2 rents late summer by returning customers and they were both delighted with the flat and its surroundings (as usual) and impressed with the changes I had introduced to the flat.

It is free for Christmas so if you fancy a cheep self-catering holiday away from all the hazel; why don’t you treat yourself to a week or two in a warmer climate than the UK? I have a special offer at £200 per week this 2015 Christmas.

There are lots of things to do, even at Christmas. Their midnight mass is something else. Christmas is different in Spain, which means the month of December is different too. How is Christmas different?

Well firstly, Christmas is not a major gift-giving celebration in the way it is in northern Europe; therefor no merchandising onslaught from October onwards and no huge pressure to buy unnecessary gifts for the kids – the Spanish do give gifts, but not on the scale of here in the UK and not until the Night of the Magic Kings in early January.

Christmas in Spain has not become the vulgar, materialistic excess it is elsewhere with all the ensuing insanity and stress; not yet anyway. So that’s great news!

Secondly, because of this, the things we do together are likely to be very different from Christmas in the UK. La Navidad (Christmas) feels like a celebration of family and community rather than an excuse to spend what we cannot afford and to drink too much. Spanish Christmas is a joy and truly, I have found it to be very joyful.
